Murter-Kornati is actively working on the project 'CiklOtok'.

The project ‘CiklOtok’ focuses on the development of cycling tourism for Murter which will regulate the cycling infrastructure, reconstruct existing bike paths and construct new ones, plan new route paths, set up traffic signs, and development of cyclotourism and digital maps. The plan by summer is to have a functional network of five promissory cycling and hiking paths, reports Šibenik.in on January 30, 2017.

The project aims to have biking and hiking trails connected on the entire coast of the island of Murter, which would link all seven hills that surround Murter. There will be intensive work on the arrangement of the five paths, and by summer there are plans for an offroading trail network.

The first path will link Murter and Betina and the trails surrounding the Gradina hill, the second path will connect the area Jersane with the bay Vršak, the third path will connect Glavičine and Kosirina, the fourth path will go around Vršina hill, and fifth path will connect the bay Čigrađa and bay Mala doci.

“In the last few months we made a path that connects the coast of Murter and Betina, at the foot of the hill Gradina, and it is a circular path that coincides with the Liburnian fortification walls and the surrounding Gradina hill. This means that now just on Gradina hill there are about 4 and a half kilometers of walking and cycling trails. At Gradina hill we sort of prototyped or piloted the project because we aimed to have the paths surround and connect all the seven hills that surround Murter. For the biking and hiking paths, we linked the entire coast of the island of Murter and arranged paths on the surrounding hills. When the roads at the foot of the hill are arranged, our visitors will be able to use the existing paths where it will be easy to reach the tops of the hills for a view of our beautiful archipelago,” said Mayor Toni Turčinov.

“We believe that cycling is one of the most prosperous industries of tourism in our municipality. The development of cycling infrastructure for private owners of apartments, caterers and other tourism operators gives an additional boost for occupancy in the season. Therefore, we encourage private renters to incorporate bicycles and bike related equipment in their promotions as this additional offer will certainly fill holes in the season and should allows renters to fill occupancy a few weeks longer into the off-season,” said Luka Ježina, head of the Department of Economy of the Municipality Murter-Kornati.

Murter-Kornati is among the first in the county to have started the arrangement of bicycle paths. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Tourist Board of Murter-Kornati and the Tourist Board of Šibenik-Knin County.
