Based on the decision by the Ministry of Tourism which relates to the public call for the development of tourism infrastructure in 2016 (with a focus on cyclo-tourist infrastructure), the city of Čakovec has been approved for a project titled 'SMART bicycle resting areas’. The project is worth 102,900.00 HRK, reports Lovely Medimurje on April 13, 2017.

Three 'smart' resting areas for cyclists will be introduced in the area of Čakovec. The rest areas will be set up close to the recreational facility SRC Mladost in Čakovec, on the green area at the bike park on Preloška street in Čakovec, and in the village of Kuršanec. All three locations are along the international R1 bike route.

The resting areas will consist of canopiess, benches for resting, info boards, 'smart' benches where you can charge your mobile phones and tablets via solar panels, or even a car battery, a box with a safety lock and tools for repairing bicycles, spare inner tubes, first aid, a service stand with integrated pump, and five racks for bicycle parking.

This project enriches the tourist infrastructure of the city and county, providing a growing number of cyclists places for rest and repair in attractive locations that attract large numbers of visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism has approved 80 percent of the funding, while the city of Čakovec will provide the rest. The 'smart' resting areas will be set up by the end of the year.
