Great news for Zagreb County!

The Tourist Board of Zagreb County was granted HRK 350,000 under the program of the Ministry of Tourism for the Development of Cyclotourism on the Continent in 2017. Through this program, in cooperation with the County of Zagreb, the Regional Development Agency and the Tourism Institute drafted a proposal of the Operational Plan for the Development of Cyclotourism in Zagreb County, reports HRTurizam on September 8, 2017.

The co-financing of the operational plan for the development of cycling tourism in the county includes the transport of cycling tourism routes, the design and designation of cycling tourism routes, the creation of maps, the lease of a joint web domain at the county level, the development of a county-level website, and the development of mobile applications. As highlighted by the Tourist Board of Zagreb County, the Operational Plan for the Development of Cyclotourism will be presented in a month.

In recent years, cycling traffic in Zagreb County has become increasingly more important, and a large offer of cycling trails and routes in Zagreb County can satisfy a wide range of recreational cyclists of all ages. In addition to the existing 13 bicycle routes (a total length of 1,317 km), in the last two years, the Tourist Board of Zagreb County has created new cycling routes including the Sava route, which is 87.59 km long and includes the Jezerska Route, Bird Route and Turtle Trail, Route of Wooden Bridges, the Waterfall Route (47.79 km long), and the Zagreb Route (41.06 km).

All routes are located on the mobile application of Zagreb County ”ZG Bike", along with other accompanying facilities including the catering offer, accommodation, and attractions.

At the beginning of the year, bicycle service stations were set up within the framework of the "Bike self-service" project in 12 selected locations in all nine cities of Zagreb County and in the municipalities Krašić, Pisarovina and Brdovec.

The station consists of a quick service stand containing a bicycle holder, a pump with a pressure gauge, a set of basic service tools (imbus key, clutch key, French wrench, screwdriver, tire service kit), and a floor spiral holder for bicycles. The purpose of these stands is not to store bicycles, but to act as a temporary place to keep bicycles while on cycling holidays where tourists can use the service stand and other equipment at the station. The station and all of the tools are used free of charge.

"The great offer of cycling trails in Zagreb County attracts domestic recreational cyclists of all age groups and those from neighboring countries. Through their rides, cyclists get acquainted with the local people, cultural heritage and gastronomy and can enjoy the natural richness of the green Zagreb ring,” said the  Zagreb County Tourist Board.
