From the first of March, the pilot project “Biciklom na Autobus” (Bikes on Buses) should become a reality in Zagreb. The concept is simple - buses on three ZET mountain lines will be equipped with carriers by which citizens will be able to transport their bicycles for free.

The decision to make this change for passengers on public transport was included in the agenda of the forthcoming session of the Assembly, which is scheduled on the 16th of this month. If the amendment passes, on the first day of March the bus lines 102 Britanski trg - Mihaljevac , 103 Britanski trg - Kraljevec, and 140 line Mihaljevac - Sljeme will be able to transport bicycles thanks to special brackets mounted on the rear of the bus, reports Dalje on February 3, 2017.

The pilot project began in October 2014 under mayor Sandra Švaljek. According to the authors of the project, after numerous surveys and analyzing all that could be analyzed, they have found not a single negative aspect of the project. Citizens are also more than interested in this new ZET service.

The service will be free, of course, provided that the passenger has a valid ticket. Each carrier will be able to hold up to three bikes so if you happen to run out of space, there are two choices: ride uphill or wait for the next bus.

Early next year, there is a planned introduction of the fourth line where the bus will be equipped with a bike carrier, and the line will most likely be on 227 Svetice – Gornji Bukovac – Jazbina – Bliznec as the citizens of these settlements have shown the greatest interest in the new service.
