Ministry of Tourism introduced a new program yesterday to grant aid aimed at strengthening cycling tourism on the continent. The Ministry of Tourism has provided an additional 5 million HRK in this year’s budget for the program.

The program for the development of cycling tourism on the continent refers exclusively to the 14 continental counties (Bjelovar-Bilogora, Brod-Posavina, Karlovac, Koprivnica-Križevci, Krapina-Zagorje, Lika-Senj, Međimurije, Osijek-Baranja, Požega-Slavonia, Sisak-Moslavina, Varaždin , Virovitica-Vukovar-Srijem and Zagreb County), and will strengthen the tourism on the continent through the tracing, building and marking of cycling routes, reports HRTurizam on April 5, 2017.

The Ministry will grant up to 90 percent of the eligible costs. The minimum amount of funds that can be achieved after the project is 40,000.00 HRK, while the maximum is 500,000.00 HRK, or an average of 350,000.00 HRK if all 14 counties report to the public invitation.

"Croatian tourism has to have a synergy between the coast and continent and in this sense, our goal is to certainly have more balanced tourism development throughout the entire Croatian territory. Cyclotourism, just like gastro and health, is a product of high attractive value whose development is especially important for travel to the less developed continent, which has all the prerequisites for stronger tourist positioning,” said Minister Cappelli.

The program for the development of cycling tourism on the continent has great importance for the development of the continent. Additional facilities will be created which will enhance the attractiveness of tourism on the continent, the season will be extended, and Croatian destinations with a diverse offer will be better positioned which will ultimately strengthen the competitiveness of tourism.

According to UNWTO, there are more than 60 million active cyclists in Europe. Cyclists, more than other type of tourist, use local trade and catering, and have a daily consumption that is around 30 percent higher than other tourists.
